Hommage a Shakespeare

셰익스피어가 태어나고 그가 거닐었을 그곳을 나도 밟아본다.
그의 작품들을 읽으며 오늘을 늘 꿈꿔왔다.

Stratford upon Avon, 에이번 강가위에 스트랏포드,.
이곳을 와본다는 것은 작가의 대한 존경이기도 하다.
이곳은 정말. 셰익스피어 그 자체였다.

Things base and vile, holding no quantity,
Love can transpose to form and dignity:
Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind;
And therefore is wing'd Cupid painted blind:
Nor hath Love's mind of any judgement taste;
Wings and no eyes figure unheedy haste:
And therefore is Love said to be a child,
Because in choice he is so oft beguiled.

천하고 무가치하고 혼돈스런 것들을
사랑은 질서있고 숭고한 것으로 바꾸어 놓는다.
사랑은 눈으로 보지 않고 마음으로 본다.
그래서 날개 달린 사랑의 천사 큐피드는 장님으로 그려져 있고,
사랑에 대한 어떤 판단 취향의 마음도 갖고 있지 않다.
날개가 있고 눈이 없음은 부주의한 성급함을 의미하는 것.
그래서 사람들은 사랑을 어린아이라고들 말한다.
선택을 함에 있어 아주 자주 속아 넘어가니까.
